In case you missed it, yesterday we announced a slew of new products (5″ Ren, GhostB and Poketo x Treeson wallet) to be released at the Taipei Toy Festival 10. We were very quiet in the first half of the year and now you know why – we have been working vigorously on some of the most exciting projects we ever have.
Today I’d like to sit back and take a look on the development of the 5″ Ren – one of the most wanted character besides Treeson in the Treeson Universe. Ren was being part of the Treeson and Other Stories Blindbox Series released last year, it was a 3″ mini figure with a backpack as a sculpted feature. When the time comes for a upscaled Ren, the first question I had in mind was, what can I do with this bigger version? It can’t be just bigger in size, right? It was obvious the wagon will be bigger, but how about the backpack? Plastic molded backpack? Yuck! Movable arm joints? Sure!
From that time on, I gave myself a Crazy Task of enhancing the figure with more sophisticated features. I asked Bubi to give some sketches on how the backpack looks like and speak to my friend IxTEE.COM – an expert in quality doll accessories about the possibility of turning our dream into reality. After months of development and when I first saw the prototype, I dropped my jaw and am still amazed by the extreme delicate craftsmanship.

So here we are, I’m so pleased with the final product and I hope you will like him as much as I do. As I tweet last month, 2010 is our 5th anniversary, and you can be assure that the best is yet to come!
Back in February Gavin Strange AKA JamFactory released the second series of his Droplet vinyl toys.
Featuring custom versions of the toy by a huge list of talent from near and far, the launch night at Bristol’s Fifty Fifty attracted a massive audience. Here’s a little retrospective of the night, featuring all of the customs on show.
Side note: We had some issues with sound for the voice sections, the room it was shot in was fairly echoey. I am shooting in the dark a little bit in regards to fixing it, so if you have any pointers they’d be greatly appreciated.
Sergey Safonov, the artist behind the Moon Wanderers, Gooma was kind enough to share his creative process of making a Godot. If you’re interested in making your own resin figure, it is a must see video!
